"Openness to exploring your past can lead to the change you are seeking for the present."

You want to make a change, but don’t know where to start? Maybe you feel stuck in an endless cycle of anxiety and depression, or overwhelmed by the daily pressures of balancing work, relationships, and everything in between.

Perhaps attending to others’ feelings and demands prevents you from prioritizing your own well-being and sense of self-worth. Additionally, having daily stressors pile up can make it challenging to notice things that are working well in your life. You may struggle to identify sustainable coping strategies to deal with the things that aren’t working so well.

Gratitude and mindfulness are key components that lead to happiness and the ability to be fully present in each moment savoring the here and now. Healing from past trauma can provide the power to embrace your present-day life and the gift of living the best version of it.

Meet Carole Taylor-Tumilty, LCSW,
LICENSED PSYCHOTHERAPIST

I am a licensed clinical social worker who works with people in New York City and throughout New York state. I specialize in working with individuals including female identifying clients, members of the Asian American community, and mixed-race individuals who would like to explore and heal from trauma.

Whether you’re grappling with questions about career, relationships, race, identity, spirituality, or beyond, I provide a safe, non-judgmental space to collaboratively explore your present-day concerns. We’ll also explore how your past informs your responses and reactions to what is happening to you in your day-to-day life.

My therapeutic approach draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), psychodynamic theory, and elements including mindfulness, grounding techniques, and gratitude therapy.

By combining empirically-based approaches with approachable coping tools, you’ll be able to:

  • Reduce day-to-day anxiety and stress levels
  • Explore and deepen your understanding of your identity as it relates to your culture, race, spirituality, or society
  • Embrace being fully present in each moment
  • Gain clarity to questions you’re facing surrounding career trajectory, family and romantic relationships and more

When you find yourself enveloped in a safe space, my hope is that you’ll feel empowered to explore past traumas which are impacting you in the present. My wish is to help you attain your true potential by exploring the power of mindfulness and gratitude. You’re capable of living the calm, content life that you previously believed was out of reach.

Together, we can undertake your personal journey of self-exploration. I encourage you to reach out today for a complimentary consultation so that we can get to know each other.

TAKE THE NEXT STEP

Are you ready to grow and expand into the life you want?

MY THERAPY STYLE

I enjoy working with young adults who’re just carving out their career trajectory and may be questioning their place in the world while struggling to balance new responsibilities. I also enjoy working with adults who may be facing challenges surrounding the next phase of life steps, including stressors with interpersonal relationships and parenthood. As a half Asian American woman myself, I’m particularly interested in working with female identifying clients and also members of the Asian American community or mixed-race Asian Americans, but I’m open to working with individuals who are motivated and ready to explore what’s holding them back from achieving the absolute best version of themselves.

I was inspired to become a mental health practitioner because of the challenges I’ve personally faced growing up as a half Asian American woman in a small town with little to no representation for myself. Once I moved to a larger city with more diversity and creativity, I was able to fully embrace my race and identity. At the same time, I can relate to not fully fitting into one race or the other. If you are struggling to find racial identity and connection, I may be able to help you. I’ve also taken a non-linear journey to my current destination having previously studied creative writing, worked as a teacher, and now a therapist. It was through my work as a teacher that I realized I wanted to affect change on a greater level. I’m inspired to help others sort through the questions they may be having with regards to their own career journey and how to fully pursue their path and purpose.

Therapy is a safe, supportive space where you will not be judged for anything you’re going through or have been through. I like to tell my clients that it’s not about what’s wrong with you. It’s about what’s happened to you. So much of how we react and respond to people and situations has to do with our accumulated trauma that has never been fully addressed. Together, I’ll guide you on a journey of safely exploring your past so that your present can be fulfilling and worthwhile.
